Welcome to Springfield Primary School
Springfield is a vibrant school at the heart of the community in Kempston. I am extremely proud of the children, committed staff and positive ethos. Many children are now second generation and parents enjoy sharing their memories of Springfield from years ago. The curriculum at Springfield is very creative, thanks to our hard working staff and we pride ourselves on the number of visits and visitors which are planned into the Springfield calendar. We are a values school which means there is a focus on teaching twelve core values: respect, friendship, responsibility, happiness, honesty, love, co-operation, trust, thoughtfulness, patience and courage.
The school has a very lively Reception Unit consisting of 3 classes with spaces for 72 children. This tends to fill up very quickly. The children enjoy discovering through play and exploring the unit with plenty of adult supervision and guidance. Each class has a class teacher and Teaching Assistant. The children are encouraged to access activities in all rooms and of course outside. The children are also introduced to Italian and Mandarin in Reception.
We use a wide range of reading schemes in Reception and Key Stage one to ensure we cover both fiction and non fiction in a range of styles. Oxford Reading Tree is one of the main schemes used to build on the Soundswrite phonics books. Our phonics scheme is Soundswrite, which is widely used across Bedford Borough.
There are two Year 1 classes and three smaller Year 2 classes. There are 2 Year 3 classes and 2 Year 4 classes. The children work together through a series of stimulating topics based on the Cornerstones scheme ensuring breadth and depth in all curriculum areas. The children continue to learn Italian and Mandarin.
Year 2 and Year 4 children are given responsibilities such as Playground Friends – these children are trained to assist anyone who needs help on the playground.
We now have Year 5 pupils based in The Hive, our new building. The Year 5 pupils have a different uniform to reflect their maturity. A number of Year 5 pupils are trained as Learning Ambassadors.
The Springfield vision is: Working together – empowering learning.
Since September 2016, we have been providing before and after school care through Dawn Until Dusk. Morning sessions begin at 7:30am, evening sesions end at 6pm.
Our aim is to create an inspiring curriculum with educational visits which will equip our children with a passion for learning together in the classroom and beyond.
It is a very big decision, choosing the right school for your child. Please ring to arrange a tour of Springfield to find out more. I would be delighted to show you around our lovely school.

Challenger Multi Academy Trust
KCA and Daubeney are part of Challenger (CMAT) now. The governing body has made an expression of interest as we feel it would be beneficial to our pupils for Springfield to join too. We are already working with CMAT in a number of areas.
Watch out for the consultation document which will be out soon. Take a look at the CMAT website to find out more: www.challengermultiacademytrust.org
